IRC - Dos and Don'ts
DO
- Have fun
- Be nice to people
- Treat other users like human beings and not just a nick on the screen
DON'T
- Ask for ops (operator) in a channel.
Ops should be earned - asking for ops is seen as rude and by doing so you're less likely to be give them in the future. See this page
- Repeat something if you don't get an answer the first time - if someone knows then they'll say. Repeating will just get you kicked out.
- Continue asking someone for their personal details (eg email) if they do not wish to give it to you
Questions not to ask
- "Who are you?" - Think about it, "i am me" or "i am <nick>" are the usual answers you'll get
- "Can i have ops?"/"Can i be op?" - see above, and also this page
- "a/s/l" (age/sex/location) - If you have to know ask it in the context of a conversation and not just one question
