Steve talks about Apple's strategy for the future.

13:25 - iMac
Steve runs some of the previous iMac adverts. Since the iMac was introduced, 6 million have been sold. And now, onto what we (mostly) already knew :

New iMac specs : 15" LCD, 700-800Mhz G4, GeForce2 MX, 5 USB ports, 2 FireWire ports, SuperDrive in top model. All-in-one design as before - explains why the design is as it is. Display on movable arm, swivels 180 degrees.

3 models : 700Mhz, 128MB RAM, 40GB Hard Drive, CD-RW, $1299, Available in March
700Mhz, 256MB RAM, 40GB Hard Drive, Combo, $1499, Available in February
800Mhz, 256MB RAM, 60GB Hard Drive, Superdrive, $1799, Available in January

Genetech has the first order of 1,000.

13:23 - iBook
iBook success - good reviews. New models - bottom is now $100 cheaper with CD. The combo drive is now $1499. $1799 is now a 14" iBook - 600Mhz G3, 256MB RAM, 20GB HD, combo drive.

12:56 - iPhoto
The 4th Digital Hub application is iPhoto for digital cameras. Makes importing, editing and printing photos from digital cameras within a single application. One button imports photos, catalogues them, and makes thumbnails. Single click printing of photos. ColorSync used to keep colours accurate.

Now onto the demonstration. Steve takes a photo and plugs it into the mac. and iPhoto launches automatically. Looks quite like iTunes - has albums down the left side. Dynamic resizing of the thumbnails. Each time you import photos a digital film roll is created - you can sort photos by album, film roll etc.

Slide show uses OpenGL to disolve between photos, able to put music to the slide show. Able to create a gallery and slideshow on Apple's webservers using iTools with a single click. Flexible print options eg multiple pictures on one page. Able to order prints direct from Apple - uploads the images automatically, lots of different sizes available, uses 1-click ordering direct from the iPhoto application. Hardbound book of photos available from Apple, page layout program built into iPhoto. $29.99 for 10 pages, $3 per page afterwards, up to 50 pages.

12:44 - Digital Hub
Steve talks about the Digital Hub strategy. Been 12 months since introduction. Started with iMovie, then iTunes, iDVD. Steve gives a demo of the 3 current apps. 1 million blank DVD-R discs have been told via Apple Stores.

12:43 - MacOS X default
By the end of January all new macs will boot up from MacOS X by default. The new machines released today will boot up now, other machines by the end of January

12:38 - LucasFilm
How LucasFilm is using Mac applications. One of the anamatics developers talk about Episode 2's development using OS X to visualise scenes before they are shot using OS X, Maya and After Effects.
Previously only flat shaded movies could be created - now with OS X they are using fully textured versions. Using After Effect they can easily alter the movie using layers.

12:35 - Aspyr
Games. The President of Aspyr now talking about games on OS X. Showing the forthcoming Harry Potter and Sorcerer's Stone game. 3D rendered scenes from the movie - you have to act out scenes such as the Quiddich match.

12:30 - Mathematica
Wolfram Research's co-founder now talks about Mathematica for OS X. Showing the features available - mathematically equation typography, animation and modelling. Showing the advantages of OS X's Quartz rendering.

12:24 - Final Cut Pro 3.0 for MacOS X
Now talking about the new features of FCP3. New real-time effects engine - transitions, titling etc. New real time colour-correction.

12:20 - Palm
COO of Palm takes the stage. Showing the Palm Desktop app running on OS X 10.1. Drag and drop vcards between Palm desktop and OS X desktop. Syncing between palm and OS X - simply press the hotsync button. Public beta files for Palm desktop 4.0 available at http://www.palm.com/macintosh/

12:10 - Adobe on MacOS X
Stanganu Narayen - the Vice President of Adobe takes the stage. Talks about adobe's vision for network publishing - creating content for video, wireless, web etc. After Effects 5.5 is now shipping for OS X.
Now showing Illustrator and InDesign doing some of it's stuff on OS X. Announced today - GoLive 6 and LiveMotion 2.0 for OS X. All Adobe applications will run on OS X.
He's now teasing us - just one more app you want to see - Photoshop. Showing what Photoshop looks like under Aqua, using Applescript to perform actions with Illustrator to build up a real image. Spellcheck in Photoshop? Yup.

12:10 - MacOS X
Steve talks about OS X. Once again, talks about the good reviews for OS X. 12 months transision from OS 9 to OS 10, currently 9 months gone. 2500 native MacOS X apps available.

12:04 - Keynote begins
Update on the last 6 months. Steve talks about the iPod and goes through some of the good reviews. In 60 days 125,000 iPods have been sold.

Retail stores - 27 have been opened, more to come in 2002. 40% of customers buying CPUs in the retail stores don't own a mac. In december there were 800,000 visitors to the retail stores.

State of Maine placed the largest single order of laptops - 36,000 to give to every 7th and 8th grade student.

11:49 - Apple.com
Specs for the new iMac have appeared in the "alt" tags on apple.com. They are :

15-inch Active Matrix LCD, 800-MHz G4 with Velocity Engine, SuperDrive (CD-RW/DVD-RW), GeForce2 MX Graphics, USB - FireWire - Ethernet, Apple Pro Speakers, AirPort ready, iPhoto, iTunes, iMovie, iDVD

This is presuably the top-of-the-range iMac. The page also mentioned a 14" iBook. More photos of the new iMac and also iPhoto screenshots have been posted here
